Dream Country, Singapore

Singapore was my first international destination. For a first- time foreign travel, expect paranoia. If I may enumerate the things which have bothered me: The immigration, the budget, how to communicate, commuting, and many more.

We booked our flight 5 months ahead of travel period. So we got time to save and to get our passports.

For Philippine passport application, you may visit : www.dfa.gov.ph.

Below is our itinerary which I slightly altered (since we knew someone living in SG, he invited us to sleep in their house. Thus saving our few dollars from paying for accommodation) to take into consideration my suggested hostel to stay in. (Reviews for The Hive may be viewed at www.tripadvisor.com)

TIPS WHEN IN SINGAPORE

1. Do not convert. It will only kill you little by little.
2. Upon arrival, get a map from the airport and make sure to use them.
3. Do not be afraid to ride a bus. You will not get lost. Every bus station has a directory (so you will know which bus to take)
4. Prepare exact amount for bus fares. Upon entering, just drop the exact amount to the box near the driver.
5. Locals speak in English. Do not worry about language barrier.
6. If you have dollars, have them exchange in SG. Otherwise, just go to Czarina or local banks (BDO or BPI).
7. It is always better to eat at cheap local restaurants so you may taste a true Singaporean cuisine . Don't worry, they are safe.
8. Bugis is a shopping haven. Cheapest I love SG T-shirts cost 200 to 300 pesos  (converted). Cheapest bags cost 350-300 pesos. Key chains cost 300 for 20 pieces.
9. SG is a fine city (double meaning here). Chewing gums, spitting, littering, etc are subject to fine.
10. Always, as in always, bring your passport, especially when you will roam until midnight.
